The Liquid Limit Apparatus (Casagrande Liquid Limit Device) is used for determining the liquid limit of soil samples as per IS 2720 (Part 5) and ASTM D4318 standards. The liquid limit is the moisture content at which soil transitions from a plastic to a liquid state, and is a key parameter for soil classification, compressibility assessment, and shear strength correlation in geotechnical and soil mechanics testing.
The apparatus is based on the Casagrande method, where a grooving tool divides a soil pat in a brass cup, and the number of blows required to close the groove is recorded at varying moisture contents. Available in Manual and Semi-Automatic (motorized) models for use in soil testing, geotechnical, and civil engineering laboratories.
